UPDATE: THE GAS LEAK HAS BEEN REPAIRED.  RESIDENTS REQUESTED TO EVACUATE MAY NOW RETURN TO THEIR HOME.  INTERSECTION AT MEYER & EL CAMINO REAL IS STILL CLOSED.  (Monday, August 31, 2020 @ 1pm)

Emergency crews are currently working on a natural gas line break at the intersection of Meyer and El Camino Real. The gas line was struck while a water line was being repaired/replaced.  Several residents in the vicinity of the break have been evacuated and the Gas Company has just arrived on scene.  Residents in the area may detect the odor of natural gas, but there currently is no ignition danger to those who can smell the gas.  The Kern County Fire Department is on scene managing the incident and will determine if additional evacuations are necessary.  Residents are asked to avoid this area while crews work to repair the break.
