Although pre-manufactured carports are sold on-line and through retail vendors, the Arvin Municipal Code does not allow carports, whether secured or not, within the 20 ft. front yard setback. Property owners should verify the location for placement of carports with the City of Arvin’s Building Department’s staff prior to placement of the carport. Arvin Municipal Code Section 17.08.040 – Front yard requirements.
A. In any type of R-1 zone, there shall be a front yard of not less than twenty (20) feet. Where lots comprising forty percent (40%) or more of the frontage on one (1) side of a street between intersecting streets are developed with buildings having an average front yard with a variation of not more than ten (10) feet, no building erected or structurally altered after the effective date of the ordinance codified in this title shall project beyond the average front yard line so established. In determining such front yard depth, buildings located more than thirty-five (35) feet from the front property line or buildings facing a side street on a corner lot shall not be counted.

C. No building shall be erected nor shall any existing building be moved, altered, enlarged or rebuilt, nor shall any open spaces surrounding any building be encroached upon or reduced in any manner except in conformity with the building site requirements and the area and yard regulations established by this title or amendments thereto for the zone in which such building is located.
