The City of Arvin values its Senior Citizens and has programs to assist with daily needs and social options. There is a Senior Center that provides daily noon meals, social activities and information clearinghouse services in a congregate setting for senior citizens aged 60 and over. Lunch for Seniors is free and the Senior Center is open from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

For the health, safety and comfort of our residents Cooling Centers open throughout the County when temperatures are forecast by the National Weather Service (NWS) to exceed certain highs.
Cooling Centers are for everyone, especially those at risk of getting a heat-related illness:
- Senior citizens
- People with a medical condition
- People with a disability
- Infants and young children
Residents using the Cooling Centers are encouraged to bring their favorite reading material, games, etc. to better enjoy the Centers. Cooling Centers are open during the Summer, from June to September. Listen to your favorite radio or television station for specific days of operation.
Cooling Centers open in the San Joaquin and Kern River Valleys when the temperatures are forecast to be 105 degrees or higher, in the desert areas when temperatures are forecast to be 108 degrees or higher, and in Frazier Park when temperatures are forecast to be 95 degrees or higher. The Cooling Centers Daily Report will be issued by 11:00 a.m. on the day before the Centers open. Weekend Cooling Center openings will be released by 11:00 a.m. on Friday.
